Gearworks Tycoon: your first factory doesn't have to be pretty

April 28, 2026 · Matthias Keller

Everyone's first Gearworks Tycoon layout is a tangled mess, and that's fine. The mistake is trying to make it perfect on the first pass. Get something functional, then rebuild once you understand the flow.

Leave space around your early machines. You will want to insert new steps later, and a cramped layout makes that painful. A little extra room now saves a full teardown later.

Don't rush the upgrade tiers. Each new product adds a step to your chain, and jumping ahead before your base flow is solid just multiplies the mess.

Once your line is humming, the game turns into pure comfort viewing. Watching parts move through a layout you designed is the entire point, and it holds up for a long time.
